Working with Live Data

How we work with journalists, analysts and creators

Live Data Technologies records individual job changes: who joined a company, who left, and where they went next. If your story or analysis turns on how people are moving, this is how to get the numbers, from first email to publication.

How a request works

From your question to publication

  1. You send the question Day 1

The story in a sentence, the companies or sector, the time period and your deadline.

  2. We scope it Within 48 hours

We confirm what the data can show, suggest the strongest angle, and tell you straight away if the data points somewhere else.

  3. You receive publication-ready insight

The figures as a table or CSV, a chart if you want one, a short method note and a credit line.

  4. We check it before you publish

Send the sentence or chart as you plan to run it and we will check it against the data.

  5. You send us the link

Once it runs, we add it to our press page.

What to put in your first email

  1. The story or question, in one sentence
  2. The companies, sector or roles involved
  3. The time period you need
  4. Your deadline, and where the piece will run

What we cover

The questions the data answers best

Who joined and who left

Arrivals and departures by month, for one company or a group of them.

How an organisation changed shape

Headcount by seniority over time, showing which level grew or shrank.

Where people went next

The companies and sectors people moved to after leaving.

We also cover:

  • Where a company's new hires come from, and which rivals it recruits from
  • Promotions, time in role and tenure, compared across companies
  • Who moves after a remote-work or return-to-office change
  • New and changing roles, such as chief of staff or middle management

Questions reporters have sent us

  • "Arrivals and departures at [company] by month for the last two years."
  • "Which seniority level changed most at [company] since 2023?"
  • "Where did people who left [company] in the last 18 months go?"

See the stories reporters have built on these questions on our press page.

The data

What Live Data Technologies data is

Live Data Technologies provides workforce ground truth: job changes captured at the source, from publicly available professional information on the open web, and re-verified continuously across the whole database.

Each change is a dated event: a person, the company they left, the company they joined, and their role and seniority on each side. We supply counts, rates and flows built from those events, not lists of named people or contact details.

Describing the data
Job-change data captured at the source and re-verified continuously
Using the figures
Use the figures as we supply them. If you combine them with other data or rework them, say so, and keep the credit. Each file carries the date the data was drawn; include it where the format allows.
Cost
We do not charge journalists for data used in published reporting.
What the credit means
It is a sourcing credit for the data behind your finding. It is not an endorsement of your piece or a partnership with your publication.
Analysts and content creators

Newsletters, research notes, video and social

  • The same process and credit apply. Say where the piece will run when you write in.
  • Ask for the chart image if you will not rebuild the chart yourself.
  • Use the pre-publication check. Most newsletters and videos have no separate fact-check desk behind them.
  • Republishing our charts in paid newsletters or client notes is on terms agreed in writing.
Regular data

Need data on a regular basis?

If you cover the same companies or sector every week or month, or want a data stream for your publication, desk or product, talk to us and we will work out the right set-up.

Live Data Technologies supplies employment data. Nothing on this page or in the data we supply is investment advice.
